Reconciliation

Those who approach the sacrament of Reconciliation obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offence committed against Him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion.

Eligibility

Eligibility for First Reconciliation requires that candidates:

  1. Be baptised in the Catholic faith

  2. Be in at least Year 3

Formation & Commitment

Formation & commitment consists of:

  1. Attendance at an activity & information evening, followed by a commitment Mass.

  2. Attendance at three Reconciliation formation sessions. These sessions begin with:

    Sunday Mass at 9:30am
    Morning tea at 10:30am (weather permitting)
    Parent & child Reconciliation formation session at 10:40am, concluding at about 11:30am.
    Children will be assigned a colour badge allocating them to a sacramental teacher either in the hall or the church.

Attendance

Full attendance is expected. Missing the Commitment Mass or a lesson will delay First Reconciliation until the program runs again next year. We consider the spiritual formation of the children more important than other commitments, and we trust that parents recognise this too.

Saturday 27th February, 4:00pm-6:00pm—Activity & Information Evening in parish hall, followed by Commitment Mass

Wednesday ??th March—St. Michael’s Primary First Reconciliation Retreat Day

Sunday 7th March, 9:30am-11:30am—Mass followed by First Reconciliation Formation Session 1

Sunday 14th March, 9:30am-11:30am—Mass followed by First Reconciliation Formation Session 2

Sunday 4th April, 9:30am-11:30am—Mass followed by First Reconciliation Formation Session 3

Wednesday 7th April, 5:00pm-6:30pm—First Reconciliations in St. Michael’s Church. Priests will be available to hear the Confessions of parents after the children—if desired.
