First
Reconciliation
Those who approach the sacrament of Reconciliation obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offence committed against Him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion.
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1422
Eligibility
Eligibility for First Reconciliation requires that candidates:
Be baptised in the Catholic faith;
Be in at least Year 3.
Commitment & Formation
In preparation for First Reconciliation all candidates are required to:
Attend a Commitment Mass (6.00pm) with a parent (whole family are welcome), preceded by an activity and information session in the parish hall (5.00pm).
Attend three Reconciliation formation sessions, each beginning with Sunday Mass at 9:30am followed by a parent & child Reconciliation lesson on the parish grounds.
The session begins with a short morning tea (10.30 - 10.40) provided, outside the hall (weather permitting), then the children will break up into 3 colour groups (a colour name badge and attendance sheet will be on a table outside the Church at the carpark entrance for you to collect and sign in). The session will end at approximately 11.30.
Attendance
Full attendance is expected. Missing the Commitment Mass or a lesson will delay First Reconciliation until the program runs again next year. We consider the spiritual formation of the children more important than other commitments, and we trust that parents recognise this too.
