2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the construction of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lane Cove. To celebrate we are announcing our exciting St. Michael’s Mega Minecraft Church Building Competition!

We know how much our children love playing the building game Minecraft. For a chance to win some amazing prizes we are challenging the boys and girls of St. Michael’s to get creative and build a replica of St. Michael’s Catholic Church Lane Cove in Minecraft.

Show-off your Minecraft St. Michael’s church! Ask a parent or guardian to record a two minute video of the TV screen as you give us a tour of your virtual church! Tell us all about your wonderful creation and impress the judges by naming the different things you find in the church!

The members of our Parish Pastoral Council will judge the entries. Click the button and have a look, you might know some of them!

After coming home from Mass on Easter Sunday morning this year, Lily Morgan who is in Year Four at Lane Cove West Public School, was inspired to build St. Michael’s Church in Minecraft.

With the help of her little brother Henry in Year Two, the pair wonderfully re-created St. Michael’s Church in Lane Cove.

  • There is a first, second and third place prize for each year group (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6).

  • In addition, there will be a number of appreciation awards.

Entries close at 7:00pm on the 6th of September so our judges have time to watch the videos.

Winners will be announced after our St. Michael’s parish Feast day Mass which starts at 9:30am on Sunday the 27th of September.

Come to the Mass and afterwards collect prizes, have fun on the jumping castle and enjoy the sausage sizzle!

If Mum and Dad say it’s okay, your video will appear on our website on the ‘Minecraft Showcase Page’ so everyone can enjoy your creation!

Boys and girls, as Catholics we know that God created us to come to know, and love, and serve Him in this life, so that we can be together with Him forever in the next. So our whole lives are about growing closer to God. The purpose of this competition is to help you grow closer to God by dedicating this special work to Him.

Whenever you begin to work on your St. Michael’s Minecraft church, grow closer to God by praying this prayer first:

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Heavenly Father, in the name of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, send me your Holy Spirit that as I build your Church I may come to know you, and love you, and cherish you with all my heart.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
